For some reason I always picture a ruddy faced Dr. Samuel Johnson when I imagine him kicking that stone in anger. In response to the philosopher George Berkeley's view that we can only directly know what exists from our perceptions and have no way of knowing if what is actually 'out there' exists, Johnson famously kicked a stone stating, "I refute it thus!". The beauty of this is that although many people did think Berkeley was insane and despite it being so contrary to common sense it is impossible to refute his theory.
On the subject of Samuel Johnson, he really hated puns, believing that they are the lowest form of humour. Well, if a pun is the lowest form of humour, poetry is much verse. ha see what I did there. I'm really sorry.Anyway the point of all this is to let you know that Fuzz Valentine have a new song called Kicking Stones and we will be playing it live so come and see us!
